Enric Mas and Julian Alaphilippe will be Deceuninck-Quick-Step's captains at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco. Both riders will aim to continue the team's successful current season.

In 2018, Julian Alaphilippe became the first Frenchman in more than nine decades to win two consecutive stages at the Spanish race and he will want to increase his palmares this year. The rider has already taken victories in races like Strade Bianche and Milano-Sanremo in the current season.

The 2019 edition of the race, also known as Itzulia Basque Country, will be the third consecutive year Mas starts in it, in 2018 he already finished on top of the Youth Classification and took one stage victory. "We are looking forward to a good week of racing," said sports director Klaas Lodewyck. "Pais Vasco is always a tough race, but we head there with a well-balanced team, containing both Enric, a real GC guy, and Julian.

"With Enric, we will take it day by day, while Alaphilippe, who has had a great season so far, can look for stage wins, which gives the team a dynamic that we can play with throughout the race. We hope to get some good results next week and take some confidence into the Ardennes."
