Bora-hansgrohe's Felix Grossschartner has taken the victory of the Queen Stage of the Tour of Turkey. The German rider also took the lead of the General Classification.

The fifth stage of the race was set to be 164.1 kilometres long with a finish on the hors-category climb of Kartepe, but the weather conditions of wind and snow forced to a shortening of the route. In the end, the finish was four kilometres before, but the climbers still had enough room to show their talents.

The day had a three-man escape that was formed by Jose Viejo, Robbe Ghys and Roger Kluge, and it got reeled back in with 11 kilometres to go. Dimension Data controlled the pace for most of the climb to prevent any attacks. UAE-Team Emirates' Valerio Conti was the first rider to try a move with five kilometres to go and half a kilometre later he was joined by Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Remco Evenepoel.

The Italian couldn't hold the pace of the Belgian talent and was soon left behind, while Felix Grossschartner (Bora-hansgrohe) and Merhawi Kudus (Astana) joined him at the front later. The Eritrean was the first one of the three to attack with 1.8 kilometres to go but was caught by the Austrian of Bora-hansgrohe, who took the advantage with 200 metres to go and took the victory.

Conti, Kudus, Evenepoel and Edgar Pinto (W52/FC Porto) completed the top five of the day. This is the first victory of Grossschartner as a professional and gave the rider the lead of the overall classification, where he stands 19 seconds ahead of Conti and 29 ahead of Kudus.
