Canyon-SRAM's Kasia Niewiadoma has taken the victory of the Amstel Gold Race. The rider launched an attack on the Cauberg and could hold the gap until the end.

The Amstel Gold Race Ladies was 126.8 kilometres long over a route that included 19 climbs, the last one at just 1.8 kilometres from the finish line. The first breakaway of the day was launched in the first kilometres of the race and included riders like Diana Peñuela, Danique Braam, Kathrin Hammes and Nina Buysman, among others.

This group managed to create a gap of more than five minutes with the peloton while at the back, the climbs managed to create several small groups. With 54 kilometres to go, the remaining escapees were caught by the first chasing group that included riders like Anna van der Breggen (Boels-Dolmans), Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM), Marianne Vos, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (CCC Team), Annemiek van Vleuten, Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott), Elisa Longo Borghini and Lizzie Deignan (Trek-Segafredo).

In the next kilometres, there was an attack by Deignan but it was repelled by the others and moments later Longo Borghini, Spratt and Katie Hall (Boels-Dolmans) took the lead and created a gap with the rest. Later on, Niewiadoma joined the trio but the climb of the Geulhemmerberg left Longo Borghini alone in front.

With five kilometres to go, Moolman Pasio and Van Vleuten bridged to the front but two kilometres later they were also reeled back in. On the last climb of the day, Niewiadoma launched an attack and went on by herself while Van Vleuten tried to catch her.

Although Niewiadoma struggled in the last metres, Van Vleuten couldn't catch her and the Polish rider crossed the finish line in the first position. Vos completed the podium while Moolman Pasio suffered a crash in the last metres without big consequences.

Annika Langvad and Soraya Paladin completed the top five of the day. This is the first victory of the year for Niewiadoma, after finishing in top-ten positions in races like Strade Bianche, Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Tour of Flanders.
