Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Julian Alaphilippe is returning to the Fleche Wallonne to defend the title he took in 2018. The route of this edition of the race will be more difficult than usual.

The Ardennes classic will be 195.5 kilometres long over a route that will feature the Cote de Ereffe and the Cote de Cherave three times instead of two while the Cote de La Redoute is out, also the Mur de Huy will be tackled three times, including at the end of the course. Alaphilippe will return to the race with a strong team to try to get the victory again.

"Julian is in good form," said sports director Geert Van Bondt. "He showed at Amstel that he has recovered after his crash in the Basque Country and will be very motivated to get a good result after last Sunday.

"This year's circuit will be very hard and all eyes will be on us, but we have a strong team, capable of protecting Alaphilippe and bringing him in a perfect position at the start of the third and final ascent of the Mur de Huy.

Deceuninck-Quick-Step's roster for La Fleche Wallonne (24th of April):

Julian Alaphilippe
Rémi Cavagna
