Israel Cycling Academy's Ben Hermans and Bahrain-Merida's Domenico Pozzovivo have suffered hard crashes at La Fleche Wallonne. Both riders ended up with multiple injuries after hitting the deck.

In two different episodes, Hermans and Pozzovivo crashed at the Ardennes Classic. Hermans fell on his knee and the consequences can be seen in a picture he posted on his social media: "I felt pretty good," the rider commented.

"Riding in the front and worrying about the wind changing direction when suddenly some guys break pretty hard in front of us and we went down with quite a lot of riders. I went over my handlebar and fell straight on my knee."

Pozzovivo suffered a crash that affected the upper front part of his body, including his face, and he had to be taken immediately to the hospital in Huy. There, further examinations ruled out any skull or vertebral fractures, but he ended up with facial trauma, concussion, multiple abrasions on the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and face, including a broken tooth as it was stated by the race's medical report.

"Pozzovivo will join us at the team hotel and then we will evaluate his condition ahead of the Liège," commented Bahrain-Merida's sports director Rik Verbrugghe.

Other riders that hit the deck were Steff Cras (Katusha-Alpecin), Roman Kreuziger (Dimension Data), David de la Cruz (Team Sky) and Emiel Planckaert (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise).
