Bora-hansgrohe's Peter Sagan has decided to skip Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The rider stated that he will prepare for the upcoming races of his calendar.

Sagan has had mixed results in his season so far. The Slovak champion kicked off with a victory in the third stage of the Santos Tour Under and then reached top-five results in stages in the Vuelta a San Juan and Tirreno-Adriatico.

His one-day races season began with the fourth position he got in Milano-Sanremo but then he was 17th at the E3 BinckBank Classic, 32nd in Gent-Wevelgem and 11th in the Tour of Flanders before returning to the top-five with his fifth place in Paris-Roubaix. The rider didn't finish the Amstel Gold Race and the Fleche Wallonne.

Sagan, who struggled with a stomach virus just before starting Tirreno-Adriatico, has decided to skip the fourth Monument of the season to focus on future races. "A hard Flèche Wallonne is over," said the rider in a statement.

"I was here to work for the squad and contribute to the effort to achieve the best result possible. Together with the team, we decided that the best for me would now be to take a few days off in order to better prepare myself for the next races, starting with the Amgen Tour of California on May 12."
