Dimension Data will use the Tour de Romandie to fine-tune the shapes of some Giro d'Italia riders and as a return to racing for others that have been injured earlier in the season.
The Swiss race will feature two time trials, two mountain and two hilly stages, where the riders can test themselves in all the fields. While some Giro d'Italia riders will test their form just days before the Italian Grand Tour, Louis Meintjes and Gino Mader will return to competition in the race.
Meintjes crashes at Paris-Nice and suffered a groin injury, while Maden crashed at the Volta a Catalunya, his first WorldTour race ever, with a broken wrist. "It is good to finally be lining up for a race again," explained Meintjes.
"It's been a slightly frustrating wait, recovering, from the crash at Paris-Nice but I am glad that is behind me now. Romandie will pretty much be like starting my season over again, which can be a good thing because even without knowing what kind of shape I do or don't have currently, we can still only build from here."
Dimension Data's roster for the Tour de Romandie (30th of April-5th of May):
Giacomo Nizzolo
Louis Meintjes
Danilo Wyss
Gino Mader
Jacques Janse van Rensburg
Jay Thomson
Jaco Venter
