Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) has conquered the Queen stage of the Tour de Romandie. The Slovenian crossed the mountain finish line ahead of Rui Costa and Geraint Thomas.

Earlier on the day, it was informed that the commissaries of the UCI took the decision of shortening the Queen stage of the race to 107.6 kilometres, but still included a mountain finish over a first category climb in Torgon.

The escape of the day was formed by eight riders and included names like Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), Jonas Wilsly Gregaard (Astana), Daniel Martinez (EF Education First) and Simon Pellaud (Swiss Cycling Team). This group built an advantage of more than two minutes with the peloton.

With eleven kilometres to go, only Pellaud and Martinez remained in front while in the peloton there were attacks by riders like Winner Anacona (Movistar), Simon Spilak (Katusha-Alpecin) and Ronald Thalmann (Swiss Cycling Team), all of them unsuccessful. The escape finished at five kilometres from the end and right away Groupama-FDJ's David Gaudu and Wanty-Gobert's Guillaume Martin made a move and were followed by Ineos' Geraint Thomas, UAE-Team Emirates' Rui Costa and Jumbo-Vismas Primoz-Roglic.

The Slovenian accelerated at the last metres and took the victory of the Queen stage, beating Costa and Thomas. Michael Woods (EF Education First) and Gaudu completed the top five of the day.

Roglic keeps the GC lead of the race with one stage to go, a 16.85-kilometre individual time trial in Geneva.
