Team Ineos has confirmed that Egan Bernal has suffered an accident at training that left him with a fracture. This means the Colombian is out of the Giro d'Italia.

Bernal was training for the upcoming Giro d'Italia, where he was set to be Ineos' leader, when he crashed. Unfortunately, the accident left him with a broken collarbone, an injury that makes him miss the first grand tour of the season, which was also set to be the first one as leader of his career.

Despite being only 22, Bernal has made himself a name in the peloton, showing his strengths as a domestique for Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas at the 2018 Tour de France. The rider had shown his good condition in the current season by taking the victory of Paris-Nice.
