Vincenzo Nibali is set to lead Bahrain-Merida in the Giro d'Italia. The Italian rider wants to get the victory of the race for the third time in his career.
The Italian grand tour will have three individual time trials and five very challenging mountain stages where the riders will face iconic climbs like Gavia and Montirolo. Bahrain-Merida has chosen a strong roster that can assist the Italian rider in every situation of the race.
"This is a very important appointment in our season which we are all very excited about, we have worked hard to get to the start of this Giro with the best possible team," said General Manager Brent Copeland. "Vincenzo has worked tremendously hard to the build-up for this race and his physical condition is at the best I have seen in years before a Grand tour.
"The rest of the team is all in just as good shape and therefore we are sure we will contribute to some very exciting racing for the fans and cycling in general."
Nibali is looking forward to facing the Italian grand tour. "The Giro is my great goal for the first part of the season and my preparation has been designed to be ready at the start of the Italian race," he commented. "I feel ready to start this great adventure.
"The route is very demanding with lots of mountains and even many kilometres of individual time trials. The opponents are many, but I will be at the start in Bologna with a lot of serenity and confidence; it will be the road who decides which will be the best."
