Androni-Giocattoli's Fausto Masnada has won the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia. The rider was part of a late two-man escape and crossed the finish line ahead of Valerio Conti, who took the lead of the overall classification.

The stage was very long and the first 190 kilometres were over straight and broad roads without steep climbs but the route changed with more than 30 kilometres to go when the peloton had to face a second category climb. The stage started with a crash that affected race leader Primoz Roglic and Rafal Majka, but they all could continue racing afterwards.

After fifty kilometres of the stage, a group of 13 managed to create a breakaway and included names like Valerio Conti, Jose Joaquin Rojas, Sam Oomen and Nicola Bagioli and it created a gap of more than seven minutes with the peloton. With 25 kilometres to go, Fausto Masnada and Conti attacked at the front and left the rest of the escapees behind.

Behind, Jumbo-Visma was the only team working at the front of the peloton without the help of any of the others. Masnada and Conti arrived to the finish line by themselves and the rider of Androni-Giocatolli took the stage victory while the man of UAE-Team Emirates got the Maglia Rosa.

Rojas, Ruben Plaza and Giovanni Carboni completed the top five of the day.
