Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic has lost the Pink Jersey to Valerio Conti after the sixth stage of the race. The Slovenian had been leading the General Classification since the first day of the grand tour.

Roglic crossed the finish line seven minutes and 19 seconds behind the winner of the stage Fausto Masnada and dropped to the 11th position of the General Classification.

"The breakaway was very strong today," said the rider. "We controlled the stage as a team, but we also did not want to put too much energy in chasing down the breakaway. I don’t see losing the pink jersey as a disadvantage. It provides the team and me with some rest and less stress. The Giro is still long and the decisive stages are all yet to come.

The Slovenian also suffered a crash at the start of the race but
continued the stage with some abrasions on the right side of his body.
"They crashed in front of me and I couldn’t avoid the crash. That is also part of cycling. Luckily for me, I only have some abrasions and it all is not too bad."
