Team Sunweb's Tom Dumoulin has received the news that the hit on his knee didn't cause any serious damage and he can return to the bike after some days of rest.

Dumoulin had to withdraw from the Giro d'Italia because he couldn't handle the knee pain that was caused by a crash in the fourth stage of the race. The rider tried to continue in the first grand tour of the season, but the inflammation and the pain he had in the knee didn't allow him to do it.

The Dutchman was very disappointed on having to abandon the race but he has received the news that his injuries aren't serious. An MRI scan has shown that his knee didn't suffer any further damage by the hit and he can return to the bike after resting for a week, the Dutch broadcaster NOS reported.

After returning to training, the rider and his team Sunweb will have to decide the continuation of his season. There is the possibility of riding the Criterium du Dauphine or the Tour of Switzerland before heading to the Tour de France, which was already likely before starting in the Italian grand tour.
