The breakaway managed to survive until the end for the second day in a row in the Giro d'Italia, but this time the Pink Jersey wearer Valerio Conti managed to finish the day still leading the General Classification. Davide Formolo, Tony Gallopin and Jose Joaquin Rojas were part of the escape group and talked about the experience.

Davide Formolo (Bora-hansgrohe)

"After a few attempts at forming the breakaway of the day were made, Jay and I were able to make it into the leading group. It wasn't easy, but Jay worked hard for me the whole day. When Bilbao attacked on the last steep finishing ascent, I tried to go with him, but he was simply the strongest and I was able to finish in third place in the end. However, I think that I'm in good form at the moment. We'll have some more chances in the coming weeks, and I hope to be able to do something again then."

Tony Gallopin (AG2R La Mondiale)

"We were going flat-out from start to finish. With Rojas well-placed in the general, it did not give us much of a buffer to get ahead of the pack, so we had to use a lot of strength. Davide Formolo made a big impression; Pello Bilbao was super strong, and he played his cards well tactically. It's a shame to get so close; I believed in my chances all day. There's certainly a little disappointment tonight. I came to win a stage, it did not work today, but I will try my luck again. Today, I had only one thing in my mind: victory."

Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar)

For a moment, I dreamt of sleeping in Pink. It was a tough and intense day in which I left every gram of effort on the road.
