Despite the injuries suffered the day before, Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann finished the eleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia in the third position. The rider launched a good sprint despite the pain caused by the injuries he sustained the day before.

The German national champion lost a lot of skin in the crash of the 10th stage and after a painful night, he returned to the bike on a day that was suitable for riders of his characteristics. Ackermann was the first to launch the final sprint but was soon overtaken by Caleb Ewan and Arnaud Demare.

"I've obviously had better days on the bike," said the rider at the end of the stage. "In the morning I had a lot of pain, and in the race, it was a little bit better, but I really suffered out there.

"In the end, I wanted to prove that I was able to be competitive. The guys did a perfect job. Perhaps I went a bit too early in the headwind, but I am really happy with this third place. It was hard fought for and I'm happy to still be here."

Despite his third position on the final sprint of the day, Ackermann lost the lead of the points classification to Demare. The rider sits now in the second position of the standings with 183 points.
