Valerio Conti (UAE-Team Emirates) finished the eleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia with the peloton and extended his lead of the overall classification.
The Italian rider will start the 12th stage of the Corsa Rosa wearing the Pink Jersey for the sixth time. Conti has been successfully defending his lead in the General Classification, even on the days that the challenge was bigger like the individual time trial of the ninth stage.
The rider was happy to keep the Pink Jersey at the end of the 11th stage. "Out of all my days in the pink jersey, today was the best," he commented. "I really enjoyed it. Tomorrow is a hard day and everything will be different."
The next stage of the Italian grand tour will feature a rolling route that will include the first climb of the first category in this edition of the race. From then on the peloton will be approaching the mountains, but Conti will aim to maintain the Maglia Rosa for another day.
"Tomorrow will be very difficult to keep the Maglia Rosa because the stage will be overall tough," the Italian commented. "But surely I will try to have it again at the end of the day."
