Team Sunweb's Tom Dumoulin and Wilco Kelderman will use the Dutch national championships as preparation for the Tour de France. The riders will be part of the road race that will be held on the 30th of June in Ede.

Dumoulin had to retire early from the Giro d'Italia -which was the first main goal of his season- because of the injuries he suffered on the fourth stage of the race. The next day, the Dutchman tried to continue in the race, but the pain in his knee didn't let that happen and he ended up withdrawing from it.

Kelderman broke his left collarbone in a crash at the end of March in the Volta a Catalunya. He was set to be one of the main helpers of Dumoulin at the Corsa Rosa but he was unable to recover on time for the race. Now both rider can start preparing for the next grand tour of the season, the Tour de France.

The riders would use the national championships of the Netherlands as part of the preparation for the French grand tour, Dutch media report. This is good news for the championships and the fans as other riders like Mathieu van der Poel, Dylan Groenewegen and Bauke Mollema have mentioned that they won't start in the competition.
