AG2R La Mondiale's Alexis Vuillermoz has dropped 13 positions in the General Classification of the Giro d'Italia due to health problems during the 16th stage of the race.

It was a difficult day for the peloton not only because of the demanding course of the day -that included the iconic Mortirolo- but also due to the wet and cold conditions it had to face during the climb. Vuillermoz not only had to deal with all these conditions but also with a severe asthma attack during the 16th day of competition in the Corsa Rosa.

The Frenchman crashed in a ravine after suffering from an asthma attack, but he was able to return to his bike and finish the stage in Ponte di Legno. "A huge thank you to all the staff and friends of AG2R La Mondiale," said the rider in a tweet. "Also to the organisation of the Giro d'Italia for keeping me safe after I suffered a violent (asthma) crisis that made me crash into a ravine...uphill! Fall seven times, get up eight?"

Vuillermoz crossed the finish line in the 117th position, 32 minutes and 47 seconds behind the winner of the stage Giulio Ciccone and he dropped 13 places in the overall classification, where he sits now in the 31st position, at 55 minutes and ten seconds from Richard Carapaz.
