Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Alvaro Hodeg has sprinted to victory in the second stage of the Tour of Norway. The Colombian rider crossed the finish line ahead local favourites Kristoffer Halvorsen and Edvald Boasson Hagen.

The 174-kilometre stage had a start in Kvinesdal and finished in Mandal and had, in general, the same set-up as the opening day. There was a strong breakaway that rode very fast and was caught in the last kilometres, leading to a sprint finale in which Hodeg was the best man, with the help of his teammates.

Davide Martinelli put the Colombian in a perfect position to start a strong sprint that left Ineos' Halvorsen and Dimension Data's Boasson Hagen in the second and third positions. UAE-Team Emirates' Alexander Kristoff and Trek-Segafredo's Alex Kirsch completed the top five of the day.

"I was searching for this win for quite some time now and finally getting it feels so special," said Hodeg. "I couldn't have done it without the help of my teammates, who did a tremendous job the entire day, chasing the escapees and protecting me.

"We knew that the last corner was the most important and made sure of entering first there, before opening my sprint. It wasn't easy, especially as the stage was hard and many teams were interested in fighting for the win, but we pulled it off and that gives us more confidence for the rest of the race."

Sunweb's Cees Bol -who took the victory on the first day of the Scandinavian race- remained in the first position of the General Classification at the end of the day, followed closely by Hodeg, who has the same time, and Halvorsen, who is four seconds behind.
