Julian Alaphilippe has confirmed that he has extended his contract with Deceuninck-Quick-Step. The rider is staying at the Belgian formation at least two more years.

After many months of rumours that linked the rider with several WorldTour teams and Deceuninck-Quick-Step's CEO Patrick Lefevere mentioning that keeping him was a money issue, all have come down to a contract extension. Alaphilippe confirmed through Instagram the new deal with the Belgian team.

The Frenchman became a professional with the team in 2014 and their relationship has shown to be very successful. The rider has taken outstanding victories with the team in races like La Fleche Wallone, Milano-Sanremo, Clasica San Sebastian and Strade Bianche, in addition to stage wins in the Tour de France, the Vuelta a España and Tirreno-Adriatico.

"This is the team which gave me the chance to turn pro six years ago and where I feel at home," he commented. "It's my second family and I am very grateful for all the support I have received over the years as part of the amazing Wolfpack.

"I had also other offers, but my priority was always to ink a new deal with Deceuninck-Quick-Step, because this squad has a unique spirit and winning mentality which make up for a perfect environment to develop. I'm happy I could sign this contract before the second part of the season, which I am ready to kick off at the Critérium du Dauphiné, next week."

Alaphilippe was set to finish his contract with the formation at the end of 2019 and this new deal extends his stay in it until at least the end of 2021. The rider is set to continue his current season with the Criterium du Dauphine and the Tour de France.
