UAE-Team Emirates' Fabio Aru is returning to racing at the Gran Premio Citta di Lugano. The rider underwent leg surgery in April and is ready to compete again.

Aru was diagnosed with a constriction of the iliac artery in the left leg and went under the knife last April. The rider had already been doing altitude training at the mountains of Sestriere and Vialattea and now he is ready to return to racing in his home country.

"I've followed the prescribed rehabilitation program to recuperate physical strength after the surgery," said Aru. "I've had nothing but good sensations and I haven't encountered any problems."

"In light of this and in agreement with the medical and technical staff, we have decided that it will be useful to participate in the GP Lugano to try out my racing rhythm. After that, we will evaluate the situation to see what our next step should be."

The GP Lugano will be 185.6 kilometres long and will be held next June 9. The Italian rider will be accompanied by Tadej Pogacar -in his first race after taking the overall victory at the Tour of California- and Jan Polanc -who spent two days in the Maglia Rosa in the 2019 edition of the Giro d'Italia.

UAE-Team Emirates' roster for the GP Lugano (9th of June):

Fabio Aru
Tom Bohli
Marco Marcato
Tadej Poga?ar
Jan Polanc
Aleksandr Riabushenko
Diego Ulissi
