Team Sunweb's Tom Dumoulin is not going yet to the altitude training that he was set to start this week. The rider and the team have taken the decision of postponing this training for a few days.

One day after the team confirmed that the rider was going to start altitude training right away, it has been known that the rider will remain in his home a little bit longer. The rider was going to the French ski area of La Plagne, after having a small surgery on his knee to remove a "shard of gravel" that he had inside as a result of the crash he suffered a the Giro d'Italia.

At the last moment, the Dutchman decided to stay longer at home. "Yesterday the team reported he was cleared to travel to altitude camp after a test ride in the morning, but the travel has been postponed for a few days," said Sunweb in a statement.

"It has been a hectic week for the 28-year-old with various ups and downs. The additional few days at home allow Tom to take it easy with his knee and take some extra relaxed days."

It is still unknown when and how the rider will resume racing after abandoning the Criterium du Dauphine due to an irritation in his knee. Dumoulin is still on the road to recovery after withdrawing at the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia with inflammation on the knee due to a crash he suffered the day before.
