Team Ineos' Egan Bernal took the victory of the seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse and extended his overall lead. Rohan Dennis managed to stay at Bernal's wheel for most of the last climb and crossed the finish line 23 seconds behind him.

An hors-category climb at the finish of the 216.6-kilometre stage awaited the riders to bring excitement to the second day of ascents in the Swiss race. Michael Albasini, Steve Morabito, Mathias Frank and Gino Mäder formed the escape of the day and the last of them was caught at five kilometres from the finish.

A group of favourites was formed at the last climb of the day and Ineos took the lead in a big part of it to help the race leader Egan Bernal. Bahrain-Merida's Rohan Dennis -second in the General Classification- managed to stay at the wheel of the Colombian rider for most of the climb but when he changed the pace with two kilometres to go, he was dropped.

Bernal kept going by himself and crossed the finish line 23 seconds ahead of Domenico Pozzovivo and Dennis, extending his lead in the General Classification. The time trial World Champion sits in the second position of the General Classification, 41 seconds behind Bernal.
