Lorena Wiebes from the Netherlands has won the gold medal in the road race of the European Games of Minsk. The rider of Parkhotel Valkenburg crossed the finish line ahead of Marianne Vos and Tatsiana Sjarakova.

The road race of the second European Games consisted of eight laps of 15 kilometres in Minsk, Belarus. The peloton was formed by 72 riders of 26 countries and it had to tackle the course that included a cobblestone climb in each circuit just before the finish line.

The escape of the race was formed by Omer Shapira (Israel), Hannah Ludwig (Germany) and Hanna Tserakh (Belarus) but they couldn't survive the pace set in the pack by the strong Dutch team. The escapees were reeled back in at the last lap and soon after Anna van der Breggen (The Netherlands) attacked and this change of pace made the pack smaller.

The remaining Dutch women set a high pace and Wiebes was the strongest of the pack in the final sprint, crossing the finish line ahead of a very happy Vos and Tatsiana Sharakova (Belarus). Alice Barnes (Great Britain) and Elisa Balsamo (Italy) completed the top five of the race.
