EF Education First's Hugh Carthy showed a great performance in the last stage of the Tour de Suisse and took the stage victory. The Briton rode solo for around 100 kilometres and crossed the finish line by himself.

It was decided some days ago that the last stage of the Swiss race was going to be changed for safety reasons and the new course took the riders through a 101.5-kilometre route that included three hors-category climbs.

EF Education First's Hugh Carthy escaped at around 100 kilometres to go from the front group and showed an amazing performance by maintaining the gap until the finish line. Meanwhile, Bahrain-Merida's Rohan Dennis attempted several times to attack and get rid of Egan Bernal -the Colombian had an advantage of 19 seconds over the Australian in the general classification- but they were unsuccessful.

Dennis crossed the finish line one minute and two seconds behind Carthy and with Bernal at his wheel. The third position in the last stage of the race was enough for the Colombian rider of Ineos to take his first victory in the Tour de Suisse.

Dennis and Bora-hansgrohe's Patrick Konrad completed the final podium of the race.
