UAE-Team Emirates' Diego Ulissi has taken the overall victory in the Tour of Slovenia. This is the second time the Italian rider wins the Slovenian race.

The last stage of the race was 167.5-kilometres long over a rolling route that included two climbs of the third category. The first escape of the day was reeled back in with 40 kilometres to go and soon a new breakaway was formed by around 20 riders that managed to arrive together to the finish line.

Diego Ulissi was part of the front group and Dimension Data's Giacomo Nizzolo was the fastest rider in the final sprint. Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton-Scott) and Shane Archbold (Bora-hansgrohe) completed the top five of the day while Neri Sottoli-Selle Italia's Giovanni Visconti and Gazprom-Rusvelo's Aleksandr Vlasov completed the final podium of the race.

"My form is great at the moment so coming here I wanted to make the most of that," said Ulissi. "I'd like to thank the whole team, we raced really smart on all five stages: with the talent of Poga?ar and Polanc, the inexhaustible strength of Rui Oliveira and Consonni and the experience of Marcato made everything much easier. Even today we reacted perfectly when Gazprom tried to take control on the uphill. My next target will be the Italian championships."

Tadej Pogacar topped the Young classification. "I am happy with the success of UAE Team Emirates in my home race: Diego was very strong, I am happy to have given my contribution. Too bad to have lost the podium by 5'', but I still took the white jersey for the third year."
