UAE-Team Emirates' Fernando Gaviria hasn't recovered on time to start in the Tour de France. The rider has been struggling with knee pain.
Colombian newspaper El Tiempo has reported that Gaviria will not be at the start line of the French grand tour in Brussels, Belgium. The rider has been suffering from knee pain since he received a hit in it during the Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia, which later on also forced him out of the Giro d'Italia at the seventh stage and after taking one victory.
The rider was expecting to make his return to competition in the French race to attempt to add more victories to his palmares, which already includes two stage wins in the first and fourth stages of the 2018 edition of La Grande Boucle.
Gaviria has had several health problems during the 2019 season so far. He had to retire from the Tour Colombia because of a respiratory infection and later on fever stopped him from starting in Paris-Roubaix.
