L'Equipe has reported that Philippe Gilbert will not be part of Deceuninck-Quick-Step's roster for the Tour de France. The team's focus on different goals and the rider's uncertain future could be some of the reasons for this decision.

The winner of the 2019 Paris-Roubaix will not be at the start of La Grande Boucle in Brussels, the French newspaper reports. The Belgian team will be focusing on Elia Viviani's and Julian Alaphilippe's aspirations for the race.

Gilbert had the hope of starting in the race for the tenth time in his career -the third time in a row. Since his arrival to the Belgian team in 2017 -after six years in BMC racing team, he hasn't missed the selection for the grand tour but the fact that his contract is finishing at the end of 2019 and his future is uncertain, could also be part of the decision.

This will be the first time that Viviani starts in the Tour de France since 2014 and he will be aiming to reach there the glory that he couldn't reach in the Giro d'Italia, while Alaphilippe will return to the grand tour of his country after taking the first position in the mountain classification and winning to stages in 2018.
