Marta Bastianelli after Virtu's folding: I have to find another solution for next year

Virtu Cycling's Marta Bastianelli is already thinking about her future with the impending end of the team. The rider is also looking forward to the goals for the rest of the season.

The European champion is struggling with tendonitis -which also made her skip the European Games and the Giro Rosa. "The course is very hard and I would not make any sense to start there with the current condition," she said to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. "It is better to think now of preparing the goals for August and particularly September because the World Championships suit my characteristics."

But Bastianelli is concerned about her future beyond this season. "Virtu closes at the end of the season due to economic problems," she explained. "Team manager Bjarne Riis confirmed this to us. It is a real pity and I believed in this project to the point of signing a two-year contract until 2020.

"From now on I will have to work to find another solution for a season, the next, which is crucial considering that there will be the Tokyo Olympics. We were in shock because the team is well organised and the results are showing. We didn't expect that. Some other teams showed interest in me but knowing that I had a contract for the following year, the discussions ended soon. Now it's different and I'll have to work, but in the meantime, the priority is to return to my physical form. We will see."
