The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has given a four-year suspension to Stefan Denifl and Georg Preidler following the investigations of the Operation Aderlass.

The anti-doping operation has been carried out in Austria and Germany after several cross-country skiers were discovered during the Nordic World Ski Championships. Days later, Denifl and Preidler confessed the use of blood doping and were immediately provisionally suspended by the UCI.

"The ÖADR (Austria National Anti-Doping Organisation) found Mr Preidler guilty of anti-doping rule violations for use of prohibited method in 2018 and imposed a 4-year period of ineligibility on the rider," said the UCI in a statement. "The results obtained by Mr Preidler between 1 February 2018 and 5 March 2019, date on which he has been provisionally suspended, are disqualified."

"The same sanction (i.e. 4-year period of ineligibility) was imposed on Mr. Denifl for anti-doping rule violations of use of prohibited method from 1 June 2014 to end 2018. Likewise, the results obtained by Mr. Denifl between 1 June 2014 and 5 March 2019, date of the beginning of his provisional suspension, are disqualified. Both sanctions will run from 5 March 2019 until 4 March 2023."

Denifl broke his contract with CCC Team just before the start of the 2019 season, while Preidler resigned to Groupama-FDJ before confessing to Austrian media.
