Enric Mas is set to leave Deceuinck-Quick-Step to move to Movistar for three seasons, Spanish media reports just before the start of the Tour de France.
Spanish newspaper ABC has reported that the Spaniard is ready to transfer to the team of his country. Mas has been considered by many -including multiple grand tour winner Alberto Contador- as the next big rider from Spain and he has already shown it by finishing in the second overall position of the 2018 Vuelta a España and taking top-five places in races like the Tour de Suisse, the Vuelta a Burgos and the Volta a Catalunya.
The Spanish rider from Mallorca took a step to the WorldTour with Quick-Step-Floors in 2017 and he has a contract with the Belgian formation until the end of 2019. Movistar wants to have a strong rider to lead its GC aspirations after rumours get stronger of Nairo Quintana and Mikel Landa leaving for other teams.
Mas would receive a three-year contract and become the most important rider of the formation along with Alejandro Valverde, who will stay as a rider until the end of 2021. The rider is set to start in the Tour de France for the first time in his career with a free role and to gain experience in this kind of races.
