Team Aromitalia-Basso Bikes-Vaiano's Letizia Borghesi has taken the victory of the fourth stage of the Giro Rosa. The Italian took the win in a sprint against Nadia Quagliotto and Chiara Perini.

The fourth stage of the Italian grand tour was 100.1 kilometres long between Lissone and Carate Brianza over a rolling route. At the half of the stage, Letizia Borghesi and Chiara Perini (BePink) launched an attack and they were joined by Virtu Cycling's Anouska Koster, who some kilometres later was dropped because she was unable to follow the rhythm of the duo.

Nadia Quagliotto (Ale-Cipollini) joined them later and the trio created a gap of around five minutes with the rest. Borghesi tried to launch an attack with four kilometres to go but the others managed to stay with her until the last stretch.

Quagliotto was the first to launch the final sprint, but as she thought she had the win, Borghesi came from behind and took the victory, copying in a way the scenario of the day before. Quagliotto was second and Perini was third, completing an Italian podium, something that didn't happen since 2015.

This is the greatest victory of the career of the Italian of Aromitalia-Basso Bikes-Vaiano. "It's the greatest day of my life," she explained. "I wanted to go in the breakaway because I was feeling well. We did agree first but before the finish, the collaboration finished. I gave my best at the sprint, this win is for my family and my team."

The peloton crossed the finish line 42 seconds behind the day's winner and Canyon-SRAM's Kasia Niewiadoma kept the lead of the General Classification for another day.
