Deceuninck-Quick-Step and Sam Bennett would be close to reaching a deal for the 2020 season, Patrick Lefevere confirmed to Belgian media at the Tour de France.

The rumours of Elia Viviani leaving Deceuninck-Quick-Step at the end of this season have been in a way confirmed by the team's CEO Patrick Lefevere, who talked to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad at the French grand tour. "It goes without saying that we had to look for an alternative to Viviani," he commented. "We think we have found that in Bennett."

Lefevere explained that the 28-year-old Irishman will make official his contract with the Belgian team in August. Here he can have more chances for his personal glory and become one of the most important sprinters in the team because currently, he is in the third position at Bora-hansgrohe behind Peter Sagan and Pascal Ackermann.

Bennett's palmares include three stage victories in the Giro d'Italia, three in Paris-Nice, one in the Criterium du Dauphine and nine in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. The rider -who arrived to the team that is currently known as Bora-hansgrohe in 2014- has also won races like Paris-Bourges, Rund um Köln and the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro.
