Astana's Jakob Fuglsang ended up in the wrong group after the peloton split in the last 30 kilometres of the 10th stage in the Tour de France.
At the moment of the crosswinds and that teams like Ineos and Deceuninck-Quick-Step sped up in front, Fuglsang was in the back of the peloton and he got caught in the second group. Despite the collaboration of several teams and riders, the leader of Astana crossed the finish line one minute and 40 seconds behind the first group, which caused his fall in the overall standing from the 9th to the 16th place.
"I was at the wrong place at the wrong moment, I just took some bottles from a soigneur at the side of the road when some other teams started to pull, creating gaps in the peloton," said Fuglsang after the finish line.
"We tried to close it and we came close, but in the end, there was a big-time gap with the first group. It’s not the way you want to go into the first rest day, but we know that there are another two weeks coming up where we will try to strike back. I’m looking forward to the mountain stages and the team and I are ready for a battle there."
