Total Direct Energie's Niki Terpstra has suffered a fracture and other injuries at the crash of the 11th stage of the Tour de France.

The Dutchman hit the deck with 30 kilometres to go in the 11th day of competition in La Grande Boucle. He was the only rider staying on the ground after all the others picked up their bikes and continued with the race, and he was immediately attended by the race doctor, while the images showed him complaining of shoulder pain.

Terpstra was taken to undergo further examinations that confirmed a double fracture of the shoulder blade and a ligament injury, his team confirmed through a Tweet. The rider had to withdraw from the stage at the spot and the rest of his season is now uncertain.

This season hasn't been the most successful for the rides as he had to retire from the Tour of Flanders due to a serious crash that also forced him to miss Paris-Roubaix -a race he won in 2014- due to head trauma.
