Movistar's Nairo Quintana dropped five positions in the General Classification of the Tour de France after having a difficult day on the 14th stage of the race.
The Colombian leader of Movistar managed to stay with the peloton during the first climb of the day but he had trouble at the ascent of the Tourmalet. Movistar took control of the pace of the peloton and all of a sudden Quintana dropped from it, while his own teammates seemed to keep going, creating a gap with the rider that was of three minutes and 24 seconds at the end of the day.
The rider was in the ninth position of the overall standing after the individual time trial, but at the end of the 14th stage fell to the 14th place, being seven minutes and 19 seconds behind the holder of the Yellow Jersey, Julian Alaphilippe. "It is clear that it wasn't a good day," the rider explained.
"Surely the crash (of the 11th stage) had something to do with it. We will continue forward with Mikel and Alejandro, I will have to support them. Right now they are ahead of me and I will have to support them. I was expecting for a good day, but my body didn't respond. Mikel was going well and he couldn't hold their rhythm either. We will have to see how the body reacts on the next days."
