Team Ineos' Geraint Thomas has shortened the time gap that separates him from the top of the General Classification at the 15th stage of the Tour de France.

The last day in the Pyrenees was another challenging journey for the General Classification riders. Attacks from Thibaut Pinot caused cuts in the favourites' group but Thomas seemed to have better legs than the day before, helping distance the wearer of Yellow Jersey Julian Alaphilippe and avoiding to lose too much time.

The Welshman remains in the second position of the overall standing and is now one minute and 35 seconds behind Alaphilippe. "I felt better than yesterday, but same again I needed to try to pace it when it all kicked off," said the winner of the 2018 Tour de France at the end of the stage.

"Wout (Poels) was really good, I just stayed with him. It was kind of a shame that I got stuck behind Alaphilippe because obviously, we didn't want to pull with him in the wheel. But then we jumped at around two kilometres to go and it was quite a difficult one really, tactics-wise because I wanted to go and I had the legs to go but I wasn't gonna chase down Egan with the guys in my wheel. But it was a decent day."
