Jumbo-Visma's Steven Kruijswijk remained in the group of the favourites throughout the 15th stage of the Tour de France and also managed to stay in the third position of the General Classification.

Kruijswijk and his teammates managed to control the speed of the reduced group for most of the penultimate climb and then the Dutchman stayed in a group with Julian Alaphilippe, Alejandro Valverde and Geraint Thomas after Thibaut Pinot launched a strong series of attacks. But the rider manages to control the loses and crossed the finish line with Thomas and Valverde, one minute and 22 seconds behind the stage winner, Simon Yates.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't go with Pinot and after that, I couldn't do more than limiting the damages," said Kruiswijk to Dutch broadcaster Nu.nl. "Luckily I was able to stay with Thomas and after that, I gave everything to the finish.

"I didn't have a bad day itself. The boys did super work, because we sat in the front in the moments that we wanted to. Pinot just turned out to be really strong. Of course, I'm not 100 per cent satisfied, but everything is close together. One day in the Tour it's not the final classification. You can see that Pinot is very strong and there are also some dangerous guys behind. I am also in good shape myself, but I hope to be a little better next week than I was today. There will be tough days ahead and we will see who comes out the strongest."
