Team Ineos' Geraint Thomas suffered a crash with more than 100 kilometres to go in the 16th stage of the Tour de France. The fall didn't have any serious consequences for the rider.

After more than 70 kilometres of racing into the 16th stage of La Grande Boucle, Thomas hit the deck while going around a curve. The winner of the 2018 edition of the race seemed to fly off his bike and was avoided by centimetres by some of his teammates, including Egan Bernal.

Right after, the Welshman took his time to check the bike and wait for the team car to provide him with a new one. Later on, he was seen close to one of the team cars while someone was putting water on his leg, but no injuries were visible apart from some tears in his suit.

"I just took off an old scar, so there was obviously some new skin bleeding," Thomas commented to the media after the finish of the stage. "I had one hand on the bars and the gears jumped and jammed and I got thrown off my bike around the corner.

"I knew the race wasn’t on, so it was just a case of getting back into the group - but of course it was frustrating. It was such a freak incident, to be honest."
