Nairo Quintana's move to Arkea-Samsic has been confirmed by his father. The rider would finish his adventure in Movistar at the end of 2019.
The father of the Colombian rider confirmed the rumours that have been circulating for weeks about his future. On the day the Colombian took his third stage victory in the Tour de France, Luis Quintana told this information to the Colombian radio station Blu radio.
"Nairo will change teams, he will go to Arkea (Samsic)," said boldly the father of the champion of the 2014 Giro d'Italia and the 2016 Vuelta a España. "I tell to all the Colombians that Nairo is going to do very well there."
The father said these words in response to the criticism that the rider has received in his homeland because of his performance in the current edition of the French grand tour. "I want to ask them to stop the criticism of the moment that Nairo is having," but he also affirmed that "Nairo wouldn't be who he is without the Colombians."
The move of the Colombian rider to the French team would put an end to eight years with Movistar, the team in which he took a step to the WorldTour level. With the Spanish formation, Quintana has taken his two Grand Tour victories as well as wins in races like Tirreno-Adriatico, the Tour de Romandie, the Volta a Catalunya and the Vuelta al Pais Vasco, among others.
