Geraint Thomas (Team Ineos) is set to step on the second place of the final podium of the Tour de France in Paris. The rider climbed one position in the overall standings after the penultimate stage of the race.
The 20th stage of the French grand tour was only 59 kilometres long and with one final climb. Thomas remained with Egan Bernal throughout the ascent on a rhythm that Julian Alaphilippe couldn't hold, which eventually made him drop out of the top three and allowed the Briton of Ineos to climb one position.
"To get first and second doesn’t get any better," said Thomas at the end of the day. "The fact that Egan is one step above me, he’s the best person to have in front of me. Obviously, it’s been a crazy year for me and I can be happy and proud that I’ve given everything to be in my best shape here and I think we rode really well as a team from day one.
"It’s been amazing. I think that we’ve proved time and time again that we’re a strong unit and we know how to ride hard and perform in this race. It’s a pleasure to be a part of."
