Lotto Soudal's Caleb Ewan has taken his third stage victory in the 2019 Tour de France by winning on the last day of the race. Egan Bernal confirmed his overall victory.
The last stage of La Grande Boucle took the riders through a 128-kilometre route between Rambouillet and the Champs-Elysees in Paris. The day started with the already usual celebration of the champion and his team in which Egan Bernal had some champagne with his Ineos teammates.
During the second lap of the Champs-Elysees circuit, an escape of four was formed by Nils Politt (Katusha-Alpecin), Omar Fraile (Astana), Jan Tratnik (Bahrain-Merida) and Tom Scully (EF Education First). With around 15 kilometres to go, only Scully and Tratnik remained in front, but they were finally caught within the next two kilometres.
At the start of the last lap, CCC's Greg Van Avermaet launched an attack but he was reeled back in moments later. Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) tried a long sprint but was soon surpassed by Caleb Ewan and Dylan Groenewegen. The Australian crossed the finish line in the first position ahead of the Dutchman, as such taking his third win in the 2019 edition of the race.
Bernal arrived to the finish shortly after, hand-in-hand with Geraint Thomas, and confirmed his overall win of the race. Thomas and Steven Kruijswijk stepped on the other two spots of the final podium.
