Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Remco Evenepoel has taken the victory of the Individual Time Trial at the European Road Championships.

Just days after winning the Clasica San Sebastian, the 19-year-old showed another outstanding performance at the elite time trial of the Championships of Alkmaar, The Netherlands. The Belgian completed the 22.4-kilometre course in 24 minutes and 55 seconds, being 19 minutes faster than Kasper Asgreen and 21 seconds than Edoardo Affini, who completed the podium.

"This is incredible! Last week San Sebastian and now this," exclaimed Evenepoel at the end of the competition. "I can't believe it! Winning the European title in this discipline is amazing and I'm going to enjoy this moment just as I have enjoyed all the other great moments since turning pro, without thinking of what the future will hold."

Along with the happiness, the sadness of the day was represented by the tears of the rider and he dedicated this title to Bjorg Lambrecht and Stef Loos, two Belgian riders that lost their lives in competition this season. "I gave everything that I had to try and win for Bjorg and Stef," he explained.

"Thinking of them gave me a boost while warming up, but also during the race. This victory isn't mine, it's theirs. As I said also before the start, today I rode for some stars in the sky. This is for the boys in heaven."
