The Netherlands' Amy Pieters has become the new European road champion. The rider outsprinted Elena Cecchini and Lisa Klein.

Amy Pieters (The Netherlands), Elena Cecchini (Italy) and Lisa Klein (Germany) escaped after the 100-kilometre mark and stayed in front for the rest of the race. Behind them, the peloton pulled by the Netherlands managed to reduce the gap with the front women to less than a minute, but in the last stretch they stopped working in front and the trio took some time back.

The three women arrived to the last kilometre with an advantage of more than a minute over the pack and right away started to look at each other ahead of the final sprint. Pieters started her sprint in the last metres and she soon built a gap with the other two, that eventually gave her the final victory.

Cecchini crossed the finish line in the second position and Klein was third. This is the first European title for the Dutch rider of Boels-Dolmans, who on her palmares already has victories in races like the Healthy Ageing Tour, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the GP de Plouay.
