Arlenis Sierra (Cuba) took the Gold Medal at the road race of the Pan American Games, which are being held in Lima, Peru.

Sierra already knew what it was like to take the Gold in the Pan American games after she did it in Guadalajara in 2011. The rider has already been on the podium of the 2019 Games as she won the bronze medal on track cycling in the Omnium.

Then she started at the Individual Time Trial, where she finished in the eighth position at 13 seconds from the podium and after suffering two stops for mechanical problems. She wanted to take revenge for this episode in the road race and she was successful in that, stepping on the highest spot of the final podium.

Sierra's teammate in Astana, the Mexican Yareli Salazar was the first rider to launch the final sprint but the Cuban and Teniel Campbell (Trinidad and Tobago) caught her in the final stretch and took the Golden and Silver medals, respectively.
