Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe) has taken his second victory in a row in the 2019 BinckBank Tour at stage 2.

The second stage of the Dutch-Belgian race took the riders from Blankenberg to Ardooie over a 169.1-kilometre course that suited once more the fast men. Despite the rain and the wind, a peloton pulled mainly by Bora-hansgrohe managed to catch the escapees with ten kilometres remaining and sentenced the stage to a bunch sprint.

Jumbo-Visma's Dylan Groenewegen was one of the first riders to launch his sprint and Sam Bennett managed to stay at his wheel and made a move at the last moment, crossing the finish line ahead o UAE-Team Emirates' Jasper Philipsen and Groenewegen. The German also managed to keep the leaders' jersey for one more day.

"I can't believe that I won for a second time here," said Bennett after the finish line. "After 70 km, my legs weren't feeling the best, and so I was a bit surprised to have pulled it off today. The guys supported me very well and kept me towards the front and in an energy-saving position.

"In the end, I still had the legs to sprint over the line first. I'm really happy with this win and if possible, I'd like to go for another stage victory here. We've had a lot of success here so far, and we're in good form, so we'll see what's possible"
