Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Alvaro Hodeg has taken the victory of the fifth stage at the BickBank Tour.

It was the longest stage of the 2019 edition of the Dutch-Belgian race and was bound to finish in a bunch sprint. Deceuninck-Quick-Step was one of the teams to control the pace of the peloton and managed to catch the final breakaway of the day with five kilometres to go.

The Belgian team did a good job for the Colombian in the last kilometre and Zdenek Stybar put him in an excellent position to launch the final sprint, that beat the attempts of Sam Bennett and Edward Theuns. Hodeg is the first rider of his country to take a victory in the BinckBank Tour.

"It was the sprinters' last opportunity here and the guys did again an amazing job the entire day, just as on the previous stages," said the Colombian. "They protected me from start to finish and gave me a really superb lead-out, and all I had to do was finish off their great work and bring another victory to the team. It feels nice to be the first Colombian to win at the BinckBank Tour and I'm very happy with what we achieved."

Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) maintained the lead of the General Classification.
