Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Fabio Jakobsen has taken by millimetres the victory of the fourth stage at the Vuelta a España.

The fourth day of competition in the Spanish grand tour took the riders through a 175.5-kilometre long route that had the potential of finishing in a bunch sprint. The breakaway of the day was formed in the first kilometres by Jelle Wallays and Jorge Cubero, and it took an advantage of more than seven minutes with the pack.

The peloton was pulled by teams like Deceuninck-Quick-Step and Bora-hansgrohe, who wanted to force a final sprint. Just after the 20-kilometre mark, the last remaining escapee Wallays was caught by the pack and with five kilometres to go, Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) launched an attack that was repelled in the last kilometre.

When it looked like Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe) was preparing for his second victory in this edition of the race, Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) got to him and took the victory by millimetres, while Max Walscheid (Sunweb) was third. Nicolas Roche crossed the finish line with the pack and kept the Red Jersey for another day.
