Movistar's Nairo Quintana has lost the lead of the General Classification in the Individual Time Trial of the Vuelta a España.
The Colombian rider finished the 36.2-kilometre route of the fight against the clock more than three minutes slower than Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian wasn't only the fastest man of the day but he also took the lead of the General Classification, winning more than a minute on Alejandro Valverde -who is in the second place- and more than two minutes on Miguel Ángel López -who is in the third overall position.
"It is clear that we've worked hard to try to do it better, but it wasn't my best time trial," said Quintana at the end of the stage. "Despite that, I will keep on fighting. The fact that I didn't have a good time trial doesn't mean that my shape isn't good. There will be possibilities on the next days to attack, to look for different strategies with the team and to take advantage of the situations of the race to gain some time on Roglic.
"We will see how the race develops in the next days. Alejandro is close and with him and me we have enough cards to play. I don't have anything to lose. We have to take advantage of the situations and enjoy."
