The last kilometre of the 14th stage at the Vuelta a España had a massive crash in the peloton that affected around 19 riders and held back the General Classification contenders.

A touch of wheels caused a crash that affected most of the peloton, with the exceptions of the front men that went on to fight for the stage win. Sam Bennett was the fastest of those men, while several riders came back to their bikes and continued to the finish line.

As a consequence of this crash, only Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton-Scott) was forced to withdraw while the other riders that hit the deck managed to have their injuries attended at the finish line. Here are some of the injuries that happened in that crash:

Willie Smit (Katusha-Alpecin): Sixteen stitches in the left knee.
Jorge Cubero (Burgos-BH): Injury in the left elbow.
Owain Doull (Team Ineos): Mild skin loss around the hip, the knee and elbow.
Alejandro Valverde (Movistar): Hit in the wrist.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Team Emirates): Cuts and skin loss on the left side.
Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton-Scott): Fracture of the iliac crest in his right hip (Out of the race).
